Supporting Better Indoor Air Quality

Indoor air quality has become an important consideration in residential construction. Below are key points related to Urea-Formaldehyde (UF) and Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs):

• Formaldehyde is a type of VOC, a group of naturally occurring chemicals
• UF is commonly used in the woodworking industry as a bonding agent
• Many health organizations have identified UF as a carcinogen
• In homes, UF is most often found in pressed wood products such as MDF and hardwood plywood
• Exposure to UF and other VOCs may cause watery eyes and irritation of the nose and throat
• Formaldehyde emission standards: US ANSI 0.30 ppm; Europe E1 0.10 ppm
• Artificial VOCs are also found in many paints, stains, and thinners

Our Solution

Texas Woodmill Cabinets, Inc. offers plywood and MDF options with no added UF and formaldehyde levels below 0.02 ppm. We use water-based, non-toxic adhesives that are FDA approved for indirect food contact applications, such as cutting boards.

We also offer pre-finished custom cabinetry utilizing water-borne finishes and, in select applications, manufactured products with low- or no-VOC finishes.

Our Material Solutions

• FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) or SFI (Sustainable Forestry Initiative) certified hardwood
• Veneered plywood sourced from FSC or SFI certified suppliers
• Engineered MDF made from 100 percent pre-consumer recycled wood fiber
